When Organization and Creativity Meet
Transforming a Disorganized Process into a Repeatable System
Nearly four years ago, when I quit my full-time job in pursuit of a business dream, a connection of mine sent me a James Clear quote that completely shaped the way I invest in, plan for, and dream about Lemay Story Studio’s future:
“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.”
Back then, I didn’t know what I didn’t know, so I trusted the advice I was given, and I built systems that served as the building blocks for my business. I poured my first paycheck into a CRM platform and new website. I created standard operating procedures. I invested in a task management system.
And it worked. It turned out, having a strong foundation in place made me a business owner, not just a freelancer.
But every once in a while, we need to reorganize our closets to better serve our wardrobes. So at the start of this year, I made a decision to renovate and rebuild: I began asking my clients to brainstorm their content three months in advance so I could batch it, instead of working on an as-needed basis for them. It seemed like a big ask for both of us, but I knew in order to offer the best value for them while maintaining a sustainable business for me, we all needed to get on the same page with a repeatable process and system.
I hired a project manager named Kacie Brennell, who is like a magician when it comes to setting up processes and systems – particularly in Monday.com, my favorite task management platform.
In this video, Kacie explains what this new “system” looks like for my clients on a practical level.
